is one of the five primary schools being managed by the KUCHING CHUNG HUA PRIMARY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE of Sarawak, Malaysia. It is situated at the hill of Tabuan Road, Kuching . It is surrounded by several beautiful scenes like Taman Budaya, Civic Centre, secondary schools, Sarawak Museum and etc.
Its land is belonged to Hockkien Association of Kuching which let it to the School Committee for educational purposes. The school was built at the end of 1945 and was called Hockkien School which was changed to Chung Hua Primary School No.1 later. It is now called "Yi-Xiao" as its short form.
It is a A-type school with a population of 1010 pupils, 35 teachers and 4 non-teaching staff. There are altogether 22 classes which offer three languages namely Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese, English and also other subjects like Maths, Moral and so on to be taught to the pupils. It is a government aided school whose staff is paid by the Malaysian Education Department which is responsible for most of the expenditure of the school as well.
The medium of instruction of this school is Mandarin. However, as Bahasa Malaysia is the national language of Malaysia, it is taught as a compulsory subject at this school. Pupils attending the school will have to start from Year One until Year Six for six years. After completing Year Six, they can proceed to a government or government-aided secondary school or even a private Chinese secondary school in Sarawak or Semenanjung Malaysia.
The first headmaster of the school was Mr. SIM JI KUAN and the present one is Mr. YEE CHEE KANG holding the post since December, 1992. [Mr Yee retired on 5 October, 1996. We wish him "Many happy returns of the Day!!"]
